Yellow Transportation Announces 2008 Rate Adjustment

Yellow Transportation today announced a general rate increase of approximately 3.9% for the United States and Canada, effective March 10, 2008.

To keep your supply chain moving smoothly and your business competitive, Yellow has:

  • Placed quality managers in strategic locations across the system, with a mandate to improve service, increase reliability and reduce defects.
  • Increased the use of trailers and packaging materials specifically designed to protect shipment integrity and ensure a factory-fresh appearance at delivery.
  • Continued enhancements to MyYellow.com, the web site for 24/7 supply chain management, which is nationally ranked as the industry's best for online customer service by the Customer Respect Group.
  • Added environmentally sensitive vehicles to the fleet, operated by the best drivers in the industry, to deliver top performance with lower emission rates.
  • Continued efforts, which have been recognized by an EPA Environmental Excellence Award, to reduce emissions and promote green activities throughout the transportation industry.
  • Secured a five-year labor agreement to ensure that the service and value you expect continues.

Along with these initiatives, aggressive cost-control efforts continue at Yellow. Despite Yellow's efforts, costs in areas such as insurance and workers' compensation have continued to rise. Costs have also risen in areas unique to transportation providers, such as highway tolls and cargo security.

Even with these pressures, Yellow is implementing the smallest rate increase in the industry and timing it to enable your business to fully leverage the planning and budgeting benefits of a complete 12-month adjustment cycle.
